About Office of Statewide Broadband

The Office of Statewide Broadband, administered by the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development, are the coordinators of Maryland broadband initiatives.

Maryland’s Task Force on Rural Internet, Wireless and Cellular Service Report is the Statewide broadband plan. The goal is to get all residents access to reliable broadband by 2026.

Maryland is set to receive $300 million for broadband infrastructure via the American Rescue Plan. $97 million will be granted for broadband deployment, $5 million dollars to support community based solutions, $23 million for rural broadband connectivity, $30 million for rural broadband deployment, $45 million to subsidize broadband service fees and more in part of SB66 (Digital Connectivity Act of 2021) and HB97.

Governor Larry Hogan announced the Connect Maryland initiative, which uses state funding to supplement the federal Affordable Connectivity Program.

The Maryland program provides an additional $15 beyond the federal Emergency Broadband Benefit’s $30 per month subsidy, for a total savings of $45 per month for qualifying Maryland households in need of low-priced broadband.
