An Emergency Communications Center—commonly known as a Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP)—is a facility responsible for receiving, processing, and dispatching emergency calls and data to first responders. Modern emergency communications centers increasingly rely on IP-based networks, real-time data sharing, and geographic redundancy to ensure continuity of operations during emergencies and disasters.

As emergency services transition toward Next Generation 9-1-1 and data-rich response models, access to reliable, high-capacity broadband becomes a critical dependency. Broadband infrastructure expanded through BEAD initiatives improves connectivity, resilience, and redundancy for emergency communications centers, particularly in rural and high-risk areas.
